‘MOODS’ is the series that depicts the artists’ love affair with flowers.
Flowers are the mood makers of a room. Flowers set the stage for memories we make. The smell of the flowers, their colours, their bloom… it can feel like the vibe and thrum of any space.
This feeling- the moods of the flowers and the memories they evoke- that is what Shibani is trying to capture in this series. With each painting, she hopes her flowers transforms you into an entanglement of moods and the visual memories they evoke.
Having come from a psychology and people insights background, Shibani has deep roots spanning decades in understanding people and their inner worlds. She has always been curious about their Why’s, their conflicts, their joys and fears, their raison d’être.
So it is only natural that she examines and explores these inner worlds visually across her abstract pieces.
While it easy to exactly visualising a tangible object, like a rose or a table, it’s not as easy to visualise ‘an emotional space’: something like, the unconscious growing distances within a well-worn relationship, the irony of life’s bittersweet symphony, people’s eternal quest for hope, or even the vulnerabilities of an artist’s overly sensitive heart.
Emotions are felt and experienced, rather than visually understood. With Inner Worlds it has been Shibani’s endeavour to paint feelings and visualize emotional landscapes. Ultimately, this series is Shibani’s ode to our chaotic, complex and magnificent inner worlds.
Shibani has always been a champion and true fan of bright, vivacious colours. But for this series, she wanted to work on a canvas which STARTS with negative colour.
Blacks can be magic when used as highlights. But blacks as the starting point, the highlight, and the landscape of the painting: that’s the challenge and the objective of this series.
This series is the artist’s exploration of the relationships between black and colour, and the forms that can emerge out of a background of negative space.
Singles are explorations. The beginnings of something new. Just the one or two paintings for now. Not an entire album YET.
So, in some sense, these could be seen as pre-releases of a new album! So getting one now, is like getting the very first pieces in a brand new, not-yet-released series 🙂
